The TMTA Board members along with a vote from TMTA members present at the monthly meeting on Thursday February 8th passed the decision to allow Class 1 Pedal Assist eBike usage on the TMTA/Lehigh Trails.
This decision followed discussion and approval of Class 1 pedal assist eBikes with the Lehigh land manager as well as a discussion with the TMTA insurer to verify that this is covered under our current insurance, which it is.
We will be posting signage at the trailhead to notify members of Class 1 eBike usage on the trails.
Class 1 pedal Assist eBikes are defined as “a bicycle equipped with an electric motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling, and that ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour”. This is the only class of eBikes that are allowed for use on the TMTA/Lehigh Trails.
Class 1 eBikes are allowed for recreational purposes only on these trails. Class 1 eBikes are not allowed to be used for competitions and races at the TMTA/Lehigh trails due to insurance purposes.
We will manage and enforce this new ruling just the same as we manage and enforce the current members only trail usage designation, through signage and polite conversations on the trail. The TMTA/Lehigh trails are on private property so the ultimate authority for trail usage lies with the land manager/owner’s discretion.
Please help us maintain our privileged access to these trails by following all posted rules, staying on marked trails, and by being good stewards of this property.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
